Pottery Classes with Liam James
I really enjoy teaching pottery. There's a whole world of techniques to explore from throwing and hand building to decorating with slips and glazes. When you come to my studio I want you to have fun and be able to relax so it's up to you if you want to learn lots in a hurry or just potter about.
There are several ways you can join us to play with clay:

Hire out my lovely bright and cosy studio - and me - for a half day, evening, whole day, weekend or even a whole week for whatever fun clay workshop you would like. This could include throwing on the wheel as well as hand-building projects such as:
- Mugs, jugs, vases and lidded jars.
- Coiling a curvy vase, planter, or fruit bowl.
- Decorative tiles, coasters and trivets.
- Build your own clock face.
- Cute (and not so cute) sculptures and characters
- Egg cups, tealights and spoon rests.
- Decorative dishes and plates... ...and many more.
You can decorate your pots by stamping, carving and painting with coloured slips. I will then cover them with a clear glaze and fire them for you to collect a couple of weeks later, or I can bisque fire them so you can come back to glaze them yourself at a second workshop.
As usual there will be tea, coffee and biscuits on the day. I will look after your pots and do my best to get them through the rest of the making process unscathed so you can treasure them for years to come.
Of course, there is a chance you'll catch the clay bug and will be back for more!

If you would like to give pottery a go before you commit to a five week block of classes then come along to one of my special one-off taster sessions :
With a maximum of six potters in these cosy workshops we will throw pots on the wheel as well as trying hand building projects using simple but effective techniques. Then we will decorate our pots by stamping, carving and painting with coloured slips.
With a bit of luck you'll have made at least two unique and original pots, which I will then cover with a clear glaze and fire for you to collect a few weeks later.
I will look after your pots and do my best to get them through the rest of the making process unscathed so you can treasure them for years to come.

Weekly Workshops
Come and play with clay in my pottery workshops for beginners and improvers in Long Eaton.
Learn lots of fun ways to make pots, inspire each other, and be creative, in a small and friendly group.
Each week I'll show you a different way to make a pot and decorate it. I'll then fire your creations for you so that you can take them home and treasure them.
You'll even get to have a go at throwing pots on the wheel!
Only £130 for 5 weeks
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 18:00 to 21:00
every other Sunday 10:00 to 13:00

One to One (or Two) ThrowingTuition
One to one tuition (or one to two) can be a really quick way for you to learn to throw or improve your throwing if you've already started. I've taught hundreds of complete beginners and helped potters far more experienced than myself to improve their throwing. I even helped someone with one hand to throw her first pots, which was a really interesting challenge for us both.
I do three hours of one hour one to one tuition for £110 (or £150 for two people) which you can take as three sessions, two sessions or just one session. The price includes firing a few pots in transparent glaze.
